Liszt and the French musicians of his time

The Liszt Ferenc Memorial Museum’s website allows the listening of musical pieces related to our current temporary exhibition, Liszt and the French musicians of his time. The musical pieces are accompanied by images (slideshows) which serve to illustrate the theme and atmosphere of the music. 7 works are available to listen, among them 3 pieces by Liszt (Sposalizio, Fountains of the Villa d'Este, Au bord d’une source) and other 4 by French composers  like Debussy, Ravel, Berlioz, Saint-Saëns. We used mainly reproductions of art works for these clips, it is especially justified in certain cases, for example the Sposalizio of Liszt was inspired by Raphael’s painting, or we can mention Berlioz who chose the famous sculptor and goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini for the main character of his opera. In the museum (study/bedroom of Liszt), besides these 7 works, 3 further videoclips are available to watch on a touchtable.

The country where Liszt spent his youth in and spoke the language with the most pleasure in his whole career had an enormous impact on the composer’s life.
